Ash's international journey

India adores Aishwarya Rai and come marriage, old-age or controversy that isn't going away. However, lately, it is not just India that loves Ash, but also the rest of the world, as she is slowly becoming a worldwide celebrity. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has had quite the international journey, more, perhaps, than any other Indian actor. Here's a look at the times Ash created waves across the world. She played the title role in the film The Mistress of Spices opposite Dylan Mcdermott in 2005.
One of Ash's biggest Hollywood projects so far is Pink Panther 2. However, Ash was reportedly upset over being left out of promos of the film. Apparently, the producers said that her fame is mostly limited to Asia and therefore she wouldn't be a selling point across the world.

In 2007, Ash shared the screen with British actor Colin Firth for the film The Last Legion.

What should have been India's moment of glory became our moment of shame when Ash decided to ruin the special moment in 2003 when she was invited to be on the jury of the Cannes Film Festival by wearing an outfit that was collecively denounced by the entire world.

Criticism from across the country sent the message to Ash loud and clear. She has since mended her taste and looks a bit more classy at this most prestigious film festival in the world.

In 2008, Ash appeared with Abhishek at Cannes. The two looked very happy and very much in love.
This year too Ash glowed on the red carpet at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.

The first sign that Ash has become something of an international favourite was when legendary talk show host Oprah Winfrey invited her to her show. Ash appeared with a pink sari as a gift for Oprah, which the latter tried on immediately.
A not-so admiring talk show episode was with David Letterman who invited her with the sole intention of ridiculing her, as is his style. Ash however stood her own most admirably and turned tables on Letterman so well that he was left a bit stunned.

On the NRI front, Aishwarya played Kiranjit Ahluwalia in Jug Mundhra's Provoked. Doubts about the film's integrity clouded its critical reception.

In 2004, Ash acted in Gurinder Chadda's Bride and Prejudice. Jane Austen fans across the world were a bit disappointed in Chadda's choice of actress as the fiery Elizabeth Bennett.

We kept the best for the last, in 2003, a big honour came Ash's way as she was featured on the cover of TIME magazine as the rising star of Bollywood.
