Ash's international journey

India adores Aishwarya Rai and come marriage, old-age or controversy that isn't going away. However, lately, it is not just India that loves Ash, but also the rest of the world, as she is slowly becoming a worldwide celebrity. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has had quite the international journey, more, perhaps, than any other Indian actor. Here's a look at the times Ash created waves across the world. She played the title role in the film The Mistress of Spices opposite Dylan Mcdermott in 2005.
One of Ash's biggest Hollywood projects so far is Pink Panther 2. However, Ash was reportedly upset over being left out of promos of the film. Apparently, the producers said that her fame is mostly limited to Asia and therefore she wouldn't be a selling point across the world.

In 2007, Ash shared the screen with British actor Colin Firth for the film The Last Legion.

What should have been India's moment of glory became our moment of shame when Ash decided to ruin the special moment in 2003 when she was invited to be on the jury of the Cannes Film Festival by wearing an outfit that was collecively denounced by the entire world.

Criticism from across the country sent the message to Ash loud and clear. She has since mended her taste and looks a bit more classy at this most prestigious film festival in the world.

In 2008, Ash appeared with Abhishek at Cannes. The two looked very happy and very much in love.
This year too Ash glowed on the red carpet at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.

The first sign that Ash has become something of an international favourite was when legendary talk show host Oprah Winfrey invited her to her show. Ash appeared with a pink sari as a gift for Oprah, which the latter tried on immediately.
A not-so admiring talk show episode was with David Letterman who invited her with the sole intention of ridiculing her, as is his style. Ash however stood her own most admirably and turned tables on Letterman so well that he was left a bit stunned.

On the NRI front, Aishwarya played Kiranjit Ahluwalia in Jug Mundhra's Provoked. Doubts about the film's integrity clouded its critical reception.

In 2004, Ash acted in Gurinder Chadda's Bride and Prejudice. Jane Austen fans across the world were a bit disappointed in Chadda's choice of actress as the fiery Elizabeth Bennett.

We kept the best for the last, in 2003, a big honour came Ash's way as she was featured on the cover of TIME magazine as the rising star of Bollywood.

Women in Abhishek Bachchan's life.

Check out the women in Abhishek Bachchan's life. Quite naturally, the first woman in Abhi's life is his mother, Jaya Bachchan.

Abhishek is said to be very close to older sister Shweta Nanda.

Abhishek's first major girlfriend was Karishma Kapoor. The two were in fact enegaged to be married, but the engagement broke, for undefined reasons in 2002. Those in the Bachchan camp say the Kapoors called it off while the Kapoors claim that the Bachchans called it off.

Abhishek's first leading lady on screen was also from the Kapoor clan. It was Karishma's younger sister Kareena. The two made their Bollywood debuts together with J.P Dutta's Refugee. Recently, Kareena said there is no question of reconciling with the Bachchans and ever working with Abhishek again.

Post the breakup with Karishma, Abhishek lay low for a while, and then it was rumoured that he was dating Rani Mukherjee. The two worked together in a number of films and their chemistry was always great. More recently, it was reported that Ash was uncomfortable with Abhishek spending time with Rani.

After Rani, another 'secret' relationship of Abhishek's was with model and upcoming actress Dipannita Sharma. Some gossip columns say that he developed a soft corner for Ash while he was still with Dipannita and summarily dumped her for the former Miss World.

In February 2007, Abhishek finally tied the knot with Aishwarya Rai after months of speculations by the media and fans about a relationship, and even a secret wedding. Since the Bachchans are known to be extremely superstitious and Ash is a 'manglik', she was married to a tree before she could claim Abhishek - you know, for good luck!

Ash has become Abhishek's ticket to a bit of international fame, as he now accopmanies her to big festivals like Cannes, where he gets a chance to share a joke or two with Ash's beautiful Hollywood friends.

Abhishek speaks a lot about how close he is to his father - Big B, but he is also very close to his mother, Jaya, who gave up her Bollywood career to bring up him and his sister Shweta.

The story of Abhishek Bachchan's life

The first film of Abhishek's career was J.P Dutta's Refugee in 2000. He was paired opposite Kareena Kapoor, who was also making her debut with this film. Refugee released the same day as Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai starring yet another new-comer - Hrithik Roshan. While Refugee bombed, Hrtihik's film became a superhit.

Abhishek's second film was Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya in 2000. The film was directed by A. Muthu and starred Kirti Reddy opposite Abhishek

Abhishek's third film in 2000 was Dhai Akshar Prem Ka, directed by Raj Kanwar. This was the first time Abhishek acted opposite Aishwarya Rai. At this time however, there was no romance between the two, as Abhishek was engaged to Karishma Kapoor and Ash was dating Salman Khan.

Abhishek did only one film in 2001, and this was Goldie Behl's Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai.

The first bengali film Abhishek ever acted in was Desh in 2002. The film, which starred Jaya Bachchan was directed by Raja Sen. Few know that Abhi's mother-tongue is actually Bengali

Abhishek was united with real-life fiancee Karishma Kapoor in the film Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya in 2002. The film also starred Akshay Kumar, and was directed by Dharmesh Darshan. This film too was a dud at the Box Office.

Abhishek's second film of 2002 was Om Jai Jagdish - his first multistarrer. It was directed by Anupam Kher and starred Anil Kapoor, Fardeen Khan and Urmila Matondkar.

Abhishek's second film of 2002 was Om Jai Jagdish - his first multistarrer. It was directed by Anupam Kher and starred Anil Kapoor, Fardeen Khan and Urmila Matondkar.

Abhishek teamed up with Kareena once again for Sooraj Barjatya's Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon. This was also the film where Abhishek and Hrithik were brought together on screen. This was perhaps the last time Abhi worked with Kareena as his engagement to Karishma soon broke and the two clans became arch-enemies.

Director Apoorva Lakhia brought together Abhishek and Lara Dutta for Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost in 2003. Despite a hit item song, the film was not a major hit.

It is not easy being the child of the biggest star Indian cinema has ever seen, and no one knows that better than Abhishek Bachchan. Born on the 5th of February 1976, into the first family of Bollywood, Abhishek is the second child of Jaya and Amitabh Bachchan.
As a child, Abhishek went to a variety of schools in Delhi and in Mumbai and finally to Aiglon College in Switzerland. Abhishek, who had to overcome dyslexia as a child, went on to Boston University to complete his education, when he had to come back since his father's company, ABCL had gone bankrupt.
While his father was struggling with the problems of the company, Abhishek decided to help by pursuing acting as a career. His first film, Refugee released in the year 2000. Directed by J.P Dutta, it starred Kareena Kapoor opposite Abhishek. It failed to make an impression at the Box Office.
For the next four years, Abhishek continued to make a number of movies, but without any major success. Apart from a dozen Bollywood films, he also acted in a few Bengali films like Desh, which starred his mother Jaya Bachchan.
When he entered the film industry, Abhishek was engaged to Karishma Kapoor. While Karishma's sister Kareena was a more frequent leading lady for Abhishek (they also acted in Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon), the engaged couple did one movie together - Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya. The first major controversy in Abhishek's life came in 2002 when his engagement with Karishma broke. The media speculated a number of reasons, but nothing was really established. Different people quoted different reasons for the breakup. It lead to a complete war between the Bachchans and the Kapoors.
In 2004, Abhishek starred in Mani Ratnam's Yuva which not only received great critical appraisal, but also brought accolades Abhishek s way for his acting talent. This was also the year he acted in Dhoom which too was a major hit.
The biggest year of Abhishek's life, career-wise, was 2005. The first release of the year was Bunty Aur Babli opposite Rani Mukherjee, one of his most frequent leading ladies. While the two made no public statements, it is generally assumed that they were dating at this point. The other big hits of 2005 were Sarkar, Dus and Bluffmaster.
In 2006, Abhishek featured in Karan Johar's comeback film Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. His presence in the film established him as one of A-list actors of Bollywood as he starred alongside Big B, SRK, Rani Mukherjee and Preity Zinta. It is speculated that at this time he was dating model and upcoming actress Dipannita Sharma. According to sources Abhishek was still with Dipannita when he started working with Ash in Umrao Jaan and the two developed something more than a friendship.
Abhishek and Aishwarya fought rumours of a relationship and even speculations of a secret wedding for months before declaring their engagement. In February 2007, the two tied the knot.
The last film Abhishek did was Dostana opposite John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra. The film was a roaring success.
